The time between Christmas and the New Year is a very special time for me. It is when I slow down to reflect on all that has happened during the departing year and envision what I would love to happen in the year to come. I express gratitude for the many blessings often taken for granted and resolve to do a better job of demonstrating my appreciation to those who contribute to my life. Professionally, I decide on what insight or idea that I found so compelling, I needed to include or re-establish it in terms of its significance to my work. This is what I know: Human beings are never more engaged, more involved, and more fully alive than when they are totally focused on achieving that which they believe is worthy and meaningful. The reason for this 'aliveness' is simple: we are immersed in the process of creation. You and I were born to create. To create means to bring into being something that has never existed before. It is no accident that children experience so much joy and happiness - they are continually creating. They are unrestricted in terms of life's possibilities. Their visions are unlimited. So, with 2008 imminent, let us put on the unfettered imagination of a child, shake off the limitations that past years have imposed upon us and courageously admit to what we want for our lives this year, in five years and even ten years from now. Let us establish a vision worthy of our highest potential. Let us declare: "It's time to soar!" As we choose the road less traveled and state: "This is how I want my life to be" - we are breaking free from the self-doubt that stifles so many lives. The willingness to create a new vision is a courageous act, for the fear of failure is for many people an insurmountable obstacle. The encouragement I give you is that people who realize their dreams are not without fears, but are people willing to move forward in the face of fear. Obstacles lie in their path as with anyone else, but they understand that surmounting obstacles is a part of the game and, ironically, part of the reward. Here are three questions that will help you soar to new heights of professional and personal achievement.
Right now, who you are, what you are, and where you are is the result of how you have thought and behaved to this point in your life. You will be what you will be, and go where you go, because of your willingness to adapt, to change, to learn, and to grow. "All Eagles were born to soar. It is why we were created. Our power, however, comes not from what we can see, it is in the unseen. It is the wind, not our wings, that lifts us to the high places. It is our vision, not our eyes, that makes us rulers of the skies. But, above all these, it is our spirit, not our speed that leads us to be strong and free."
